Caddo & LBJ National Grasslands
LBJ GRASSLANDS: (just north of Dallas, TX)

The Lyndon Baines Johnson (LBJ) National Grasslands is 22,012 acres; the District Office is located in Decatur, TX (940-627-5475). South of Cottonwood Lake on the LBJ is the75-mile Multi-Use trail system. TADRA Point trailhead has 2 accessible restrooms, accessible horse ramp, 20 parking spurs, 6 pull through and 10 stock tethers. Stock water is available, but drinking water is not available. The Day Use fee is $4/vehicle/day.


Directions to TADRA Point Trailhead

From Decatur follow FM 730 north for 10 miles to CR 2461, turn left and at the fork, turn right onto CR 2560, proceed 3 miles and turn left onto FS road 900, TADRA Point Trailhead is on the right 2 miles ahead.


THE CADDO: (north of Honey Grove, TX)

The Caddo National Grasslands is 16,174. The entire Caddo is a Wildlife Management Area, or a special designation that offers improved habitat for hunting, and as such the area receives heavy hunting from September to May and visitors should wear and orange vest. The only designated horse riding trail on the Caddo is the 30-mile Bois D’Arc Trail. There is a $6.00 per night fee to camp at the trailhead or a $2.00 day use fee to use the camp but there is no fee to use just the trail. The Trailhead has designated campsites, toilets, and a small shelter.


Directions to BoisD’Arc Trail (horses)

From Honey Grove follow FM 100 north for 10.5 miles to FM 409, turn left onto FM 409 and proceed roughly 5 miles to the fee Day Use Parking Area (on Left just after the East Coffee Mill Recreation Site) or proceed about ¼ mile further on FM 409 to the Bois D’Arc Trailhead which offers facilities for camping with horses
